Hello All! What do you do when your favorite restaurant receives an "award of excellence" from the Wine Spectator & the owner invites you to a party to celebrate? You make lace of course!! Bertrand is from the Loire region so a fleur de lys seemed an appropriate token. Luckily a lacemaking friend came to my rescue since I had no pattern & can't design my way out of a paper bag in lace. She worked with the graph I found in Here Be Wyverns & emailed the pricking last weekend. After numerous consultations by phone/email & a too-close personal relationship with Penelope stitch, it is finished & I've posted a pic to webshots. Please--no pot shots from the real lacemakers on Arachne--I will take my ta-da moments wherever I find them! Big learning curve for me & lots of mistakes--but done & ready for tomorrow's bash. In the midst of all this, I blew up the pricking to page size so I could follow the paths of the threads. That lead to the idea of enlarging the pattern for ! perle coton to make wine coasters. And I'd like to try working the pattern from bottom to top, using a different finish. So it's a good thing I'm retired & have time on my hands. <g> Sincerely, Susan Hottle, Erie, PA USA
