When I started to make Beds I bought Pam Robinson's excellent book - a Manual of Bedfordshire lace. This was a revolutionary book as where you had a particular technique you referred to the pullout technique section at the back of the book. In order to master throwing in and out of bobbins I made the hankie corner. It was beautiful and my mother was taken back by it when I gave it to her for her birthday. So, I made it again for my grandmother. Simple to do, quick to go and look at the reference pictures / diagrams and words. I went on to make more beds from prickings only and was really pleased with what I'd learnt. Then some 15 years later I decided to make the hankie corner again but this time, for my mother-in-law to be. I discovered that whilst I had learnt to make beds I had never learnt to make the hankie corner. I had to get the technique booklet out again. Just an aside, when I married in 2007 - mum lent me this hankie as my something borrowed. I didnt' know she was going to until just before the wedding - it was rather a weepy moment as yo can imagine. Kind Regards

I follow diagrams. Yes, even "slavishly"! I don't have any intentions of ever becoming a master lacemaker. I make lace for the enjoyment. I do not enjoy spending hours unlacing. I have limited free time, so I don't want to spend all of it trying to figure out which move to make next or in which direction to make it. Just tell me either by diagram or in writing, so I can get some lace made already! I'm not trying to problem-solve a puzzle - I'm trying to make some finished lace. <snipped> - To unsubscribe send email to [email protected] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [email protected].
