I say "LACE-iss" to refer to the store/publisher in California, and "la CEASE" to refer to any other usage of the word, because that's how I learned it.
I go by the theory that as long as people know what you're talking about, the pronounciation is OK. It's easy to see there is no "English Academy" in the spirit of the "Academie Francaise".
