Dear Arachnids I have not looked at the pictures of the 'handkerchiefs' but Joan Tyler-Smith showed me some square handkerchief-like items with circular centres and wide lace edgings, many of them silk, and she explained they were made to cover the face of someone who had died. Does anyone know more about this tradition?
