Sandi,

You might find a lot of used out of print materials on Amazon for
ridiculous prices. Anything with the tag "new or used" on Amazon isnt
actually sold by Amazon, but rather by a third party. Small businesses that
make their money reselling items on amazon use automated listing programs.
These programs scan amazon for similar items to determine a baseline and
then regularly adjust the price based on the market. When there are only
two or three copies of an item available, and ALL of them are from
automated listing agents, each agent will use the other agents estimates to
form a new price, and then the items get caught in a feedback loop,
resulting in these rather strange prices. As soon as one of the humans
responsible for the agent intervenes, or a different human lists a copy at
a reasonable price, the whole thing fixes itself.

In summary, this is probably a case of computer stupidity, and if you wait
for a couple months, you'll see the price return to a reasonable level
suddenly. Never buy lace books or other out of print books from Amazon
unless you can verify that you are getting a decent price. Don't trust the
actual listings to be a measure of value.
