FWIW, I can see using a special thread as a gimp for emphasis, regardless of its fiber content.
Silk gimp to main thread cotton for sure, although maybe not cotton gimp to main thread silk, unless it gave the effect I wanted. If making something that would be laundered, it would be better to keep the thread content consistent?
