Thank you Carolina. I agree about crafts being made using cheaper threads,
those that could be produced in their region. I don't think linen could be
grown in Spain or Tenerife, I doubt if the climatic conditions would be
suitable. I have read that in England thread spun from nettle fibres was
used to make lace, but I have never seen any.

In 17nth. and 18nth. centuries, used to work here in Catalonia (Spain)
metallic laces, gold and silver threads to decorate ecclesiastical
articles and the Madonna's dresses. These laces were exported all over
Europe.
But the historic texts also say that the poorest parishes worked the same
lace techniques using less costly threads, pita.
