Dear Lace Makers, Of all the OIDFA Congresses I've attended, the one in Groninger The Netherlands is my favorite memory. The Dutch women of LOKK are very well organized and hospitable. The 5-day tour was a fantastic blend of Amsterdam (where we met Lia Baumeister-Jonker, demonstrating lace in the lowest level of the Rembrandt House), visits to small villages with old traditions, the summer palace of the royal family, and very well-produced lace exhibits in both small private and large public.museums.. I recommend you look at _www.lokk.nl_ (http://www.lokk.nl) and follow up on Clay's recommendation of books. Click on the British flag for English and Boeken for books.. Of them all, if you can buy "Kant in de Gouden Eeuw" (translation"Lace in the Golden Age"), you will have a treat. Three languages, one English. Includes Dutch caps, edged with wonderful laces (for which there are prickings), a chapter on "Califlower" and old Flemish ground, and lace from several regions. Printed on very good paper, which means clear photographs and prickings (some printed on a separate insert in the book - in color). If you do not live in The Netherlands, you may not be familiar with their delightful variety of national dress. Always, the women are wearing lace on their heads in old art and for special occasions. The book listed below the one reviewed above is "Kant met een Zilveren Randje" (Lace with a Silver Lining"). .Published for the same anniversary celebration. This presents laces (with prickings) of contemporary makers, laces in museums (including the small museums), and 16 pages of lists of museums (by region) with contact information. Great for trip planning. Three languages, one English. Both books were published to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the founding of LOKK, which is probably why Clay was asking if there would be a new book for the 35th!. How I would love to be there! And the LOKK always has such beautiful books... Surely there is one to commemorate this anniversary?
