How I distinguish them:

Reticell.  Worked either in the cloth with pulled threads OR from couched
thread and is geometric in style.  It evolved into . . .

Punto in Aria. Which is worked on couched threads or threads as you go and
has a floral or filigree style to it.

Then:
Point de Venise ... which is Punto in Aria on crack.
