Hi all,

As the heading says, I am new here. It was suggested on the Lacemaker’s
Facebook page that I ask here if there are any tutors in the Lower Mainland of
British Columbia. Specifically, I am looking for some introductory lessons on
bobbin lace and Oya needle lace.

Currently I would consider myself a braider in kumihimo (using a traditional
marudai and with a takadai on order). During the summer my wife and I were in
Turkey and, while at the time it did not seem to interest me, I have become
interested in Oya lace since returning home. I have a book on order from a
bookstore in Istanbul but it has not yet come.

I have tried my hand at lacemaking using a blanket stitch with a tailor’s ham
as a pillow and pencils as bobbins. Yes, I did make something. No, it was
not good. Photos have been posted on the Lacemaker’s Facebook page. I now
have a beginner kit on order from Snowgoose.

Anyway, “hi.” And, if you accept students or can offer mentoring, please let
me know.

I look forward to continuing to read posts and slowly learning the lacemaker’s
language so that they make more sense.

Thanks.

Ehud
