The way I think about it is this: in one afternoon with a knitting teacher you can learn enough to make a muffler or stole. With a 2nd afternoon to learn increases and decreases, you can make a simple sweater.
In bobbin lace the 1st lesson teaches the basic stitches. The 2nd afternoon may be grounds or footings. But it takes at least 3 or 4 lessons before you can make anything actually lace like. Students ask if bobbin lace is hard. I tell them it isn't as hard as it looks, but there is a lot to learn. I tell students that learning bobbin lace is like learning to carve a full size eagle in flight out of wood. You wouldn't expect to be able to do that after 4 woodcarving lessons. Bobbin lace is the same. Lorelei - To unsubscribe send email to [email protected] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [email protected]. For help, write to [email protected].
