I learnt to make lace in France, and feel very privileged to be able to read books in English and German as well; the majority of my French lacemaking friends speak only French (partly a question of generation and possibly geography). Probably the younger lacemakers have learnt some English at school. Here I hear the same sort of comments: why can't authors translate into French???
