Years ago, I toured the Pipers manufacturing and selling establishment when it was located in southwest England, after the business was sold to a woman (whom we met), and before she moved it north to Cardiff (I believe). Now I see it is offered by someone in Suffolk. This morning I sent off a note to the embroidery tour leader asking if the American embroidery community was having problems with ordering. She suggested I write to Helen Stevens, one of England's most prolific and skilled silk embroiderers, since she might know more than we do. Helen uses Pipers silks, and maybe she sells them to her students. A letter went out to her five hours ago, and I will keep you posted. Some of you might like to look at Helen M. Stevens's embroideries. If so, do a search. They are lovely. I have 12 of her books on embroidery, which is a good indication of her devotion to the use of Pipers silk threads. Another thought is that if anyone knows someone at the Royal School of Needlework, you might ask them about sourcing this thread. It is a thread that would be used by students and conservators there. As a small business they do close for holidays - the "notes on ordering" page on their website hasn't been updated recently so I couldn't check the Christmas closure dates (it's still showing holiday date info for July & September 2014), but could it be that Susan is taking a particularly long Christmas/New Year break? Has anyone else had contact with Pipers' recently can report whether everything seemed ok? It's odd that the Christmas closure dates hadn't been put on the website, but that could just have been forgotten in the Christmas rush.
