I investigated this as well when publishing my Youghal Lace book — I’d love to make it cheaper to buy overseas, and investigated publishing in the UK to save on shipping costs.
Brenda spells out the difficulties quite well. Distribution overseas is a considerable problem. Booksellers who store, pack and ship do earn their keep.
