You may wish to view this painting, which was used today to announce a Lecture at Winterthur: https://www.pafa.org/exhibitions/artists-garden-american-impressionism-and-g arden-movement-1887-1920 Click on the picture of the painting upper left for an enlarged view: "Crimson Rambler" by Philip Leslie Hale, ca. 1908, in the collection of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. . Notice the veil shape and how it is attached to the hat. Then, how the drape of the veil and a ribbon sash the same color as roses mimic the shape of crimson climbing roses. Lovely, is it not? Soon we will enjoy roses in the Northern Hemisphere, after a long Winter. Jeri Ames in Maine USA Lace and Embroidery Resource Center
