Thank you all of you for the suggestions, they are all very helpful. Mention
of tongue depressors and popsicle sticks reminded me of a gift of two home-made
bobbin tamers I had from a dear lady called Lorna, which have been snuggled
away in my travel pillow. Made from tongue depressors they even have two
convenient holes to pin to the pillow and voila! They have tamed my bobbins and
threads. Brilliant and I get to use Lorna’s gift. I’ve posted a picture to
Arachne’s Flckr account.

I should also explain the colouring in on the pricking is a tip from Barbara
Underwood’s classes at Knuston Hall (now Denise Vickery). Colouring in
helps to highlight the trails and cloth areas on Beds prickings, where the old
lacemakers used to draw a line – often mistaken for a gimp. We use Pastel
coloured felt art pens, make sure they are not water soluble inks, and once dry
they don’t come off on the lace. Different colours for different effects –
half stich or whole … (and to make it pretty).

All best wishes

Louise

In Cambridge where we are forecast more thunderstorms to drown the May balls.
