When non fiber artists ask about cost of a handmade item and I quote how many hours of work go into it, I too hear them balk at the cost. I throw it back on them and ask how much they feel they should be paid for X amount of hours of work. Usually gets them to think how much their time is worth and thus an artist's time is worth.
