Thank you Lorelei & Sue!  Yes, I know about Bobowa--that's where they have the 
lace festival every year.  Lace makers apparently take over the town!  Also 
someone in that area operates tours & lace classes for visitors.  There are 
many photos of Polish lace online but I hesitate to say that I could make out 
enough detail to recreate a similar sample.  The YouTube example looked like 
something I could actually accomplish but I'm also concerned that this could be 
an ethnically sensitive area.  It's not clear whether it is more insensitive to 
make a stab at it or to ask for help with a closely guarded family pattern!  
We're trying to do something nice for the Polish residents & honor their 
traditions at the same time.  In the meantime, I know many more Polish terms
