Thank you to you Trish and to Liz Pass in Poole who came back to me yesterday. I am keeping the information to see if the lace makes it out of the apartment in the first place. It might not have survived the fire or the ruthless hosing down and at this point I have no idea but it seemed a good time to ask the question in case!

Hi Sue,
If the lace is still intact and just smoke damaged it is worth a try to restore it by soaking and washing it to remove the smoke. I think most folks suggest using Orvis to clean lace. I sure more folks will offer more suggestions.
