I have a few antique bobbins - both bone and wood, - and I use them all the time. Mine are hand-me-downs from my Grandmother, plus a couple that I bought, and I am sure the 'old timers' would Love to know their bobbins were being used.

Re spangle if necessary using some of the beads that are currently on the spangles, and use the bobbins - that is what they are there for!!!!!!!!!! I had to wash (scrub) some of my old spangles, as the beads were the square ones with dimples, and the dimples were full of dirt (gunk!) and now they look really nice.
