I once put this suggestion to Santina Levey, who said it was much more  
likely that it was one of many examples of giving fanciful names to new types 
of  
lace (particularly machine lace). 
I have made a scarf with genuine yak wool - beautifully soft and not a bit  
like the harsh feel of the 19th century edgings and insertions
