As a fashion historian, I can't let this one pass - the rather splendid Bucks
pattern is not a Cope but a Cape! Someone long ago missread Miss Sivewright
(or Miss Pope)'s handwriting, and the missprint has been perpetuated ever
since. It would not have been worn by a Bishop, but by a fashionable
Edwardian lady. The irregular inner edge would be mounted onto fabric,
probably heavy silk or velvet, to fit round her neck.

I think there was an article discussing this in the Lace Guild magazine a few
years back.

Bridget Marrow, in Pinner, where the sun has just come out and the rain-washed
garden is possitively sparkling.
