This was the thing that most struck me in my teaching various things during my life. That people's brain function can be so different, along with other things like though many are so viausl, others are auditory, etc. Just think of instructions you have read, or even owners manuals- one is so simple and clear and one is written so confusing. I have found I have to reword things differently, take them through the "rat in the maze" approach, then give them the aerial view (of the maze), and use many analogies and metaphors as it removes the pressure from them to something that can facilitate objectivity. I could go on at length, but it is like the whisper game when a child (originator whispers something, repeated to the next and the last person states what supposedly was originally whispered, greatly maligned), what one speaks it goes through another's cognitive filter much less hand/eye coordination, ad finitum. Plus it is good for our own brain function, empathy, etc. <smiling> Best, Susan Reishus
"...it was a challenge to find different ways to explain things to her, but she mastered it, - and then taught her daughter to make lace, too!!! It just took a lot of patience - for both of us, and I had to think things from a different perspective, sometimes, but it was Verysatisfying when eventually the penny dropped, and she understood what was what!!!"
