Just to put a more positive side to this, just consider recent developments in lace, and how many have been brought about by a teacher of genius stimulating her students into making a new type of lace - Sister Judith with Witholf, Mrs Read with Milanese revival and, certainly for reviving needle lace in the UK, Nenia Lovesey. All of them generous with their skills and knowledge, and publishing to share them as widely as possible. I don't think their classes were any the less full because they didn't keep something back, and I am sure they all would agree that the students contributed as much as they got.
