At a recent computer market in Canberra, I purchased an Otek portable mini LED lamp. It runs off 4 AAA batteries, or can be plugged into a USB port. It is no bigger than a mobile phone, folds out in a "Z" formation, with the top bar being a tiltable strip of LED lights. It weights only 89g, and comes in a dinky little black velvet bag.
It is absolutely perfect for perching on a lace pillow to work by. The light is bright and clear, it generates no heat at all, and the batteries seem to be lasting well. It would be a godsend at workshops. Sadly, I have Googled for this, and cannot come up with anything similar anywhere in the world. I have traced the dealer I bought it from and he can provide me with more (all my lacemaking friends want one), but no luck finding one commercially available.
