I've been away from the computer for a few days - was in Harrisburg for a workshop with Sandi Woods! I was with a delightful group of lacemakers, and Sandi is a wonderful teacher. We all had a great time, and discovered new and sinful chocolate delights.

I've discovered a very versatile bag for my large pillows. It is in a quilting book which I've had a long time, but which I think is still in print. It is "Fat Quarter Quilts" by M'liss Ray Rawley (I think I've spelled it right). It's toward the back of the book. Essentially, you put together six fat quarters and sandwich it with a coordinating fabric for the lining. the two long sides have heavy-duty elastic through the edges, and the two short sides have handles through the folded-over channels. The elastic keeps the bag somewhat closed, and the things I like are that the bag is carried flat (perfect for those large block pillows), and also when you put it down on your pillow table, you can just turn the bag down and not have to worry about removing it. It creates your own little "modesty panel"! I've made several for myself and others. I had it in Harrisburg this weekend, and several people asked me to send them information about the bags. If you decide to make one, you may want to sew a piece of quilt batting to the center of the lining as I do, just to give your pillow some more protection.

Diane mentioned using a large square with knotted corners for carrying
pillows around in and I do something similar.

I use a large table cloth (not my best lacy, linen or Battenberg cloths),
but a couple of casual ones. I have 2 large pillows that don't have bags,
so I have them wrapped in table cloths. Since both cloths are rectangular
(and quite large) I have folded them in half. Each pillow has it's cloth,
and the opposing corners are pulled up and knotted. The knots make great
handles to carry them with.

I think this is what Mum first used when she started going to BL classes in
Oz in the mid 70's, before she made a bag for her pillow.
