The Ruins of Lace by Iris Anthony
The chapters are rather short and each is written from various
character's point of view...including the lace smuggling dog.
The stories
intertwine subtly during the peak of French history when sumptuary laws
were
enforced. Much of the intrigue of lace is included- orphans, convents,
workshops, sales, smuggling and of course a little romance.
