Last year I made a bobbin lace vest that is one of Christine Mirecki's patterns.
 I did not use Yaspe silk, but a weaving silk that I got from Webs in
Northampton, MA which is a little finer.  I used large continental bobbins
(somewhat similar to Spanish) and was able to wind approximately 8 yards of the
silk thread on each bobbin.  After much trial and error (I also tried mini hair
clips and drinking straws with no success), I came up with the following
solution.  I made sure that when I wound the bobbins I only put thread on the
bottom two thirds of the neck, leaving the top third of the neck bare wood which
held the hitch very nicely.
