I've wanted to weigh in on this discussion for some while, but I've been pretty
busy. So, I've gathered my thoughts and written a long blog post about it.

Instead of spam the list with the long post, I'm sending the link. If remote
subscriptions is a topic of interest to you and you have some time for a
discussion of possible use cases, ideas for improvement, and how I think it
fits into the bigger picture, please stop by.

One thing that might simplify the process is a subscribe/add-to button a
la my yahoo. I can envision potential subscribers finding out about a user from
and outside source like a blog or article. Example:

    That's a good idea.

In addition, laconica should allow for remote subscription even if logged
in to that particular instance.

I strongly disagree. I think that's a real edge case. Typical users will
not need to do remote subs on a service they already have a login on. It's only
really useful for people who are testing remote subs, and there's a really easy
workaround (log out).

  Disagreement accepted. :)

It will be interesting to see who the typical user turns out to be.

Adding a UI to make this possible is going to really complicate things.
