Praveen,

I would suggest to your client that the only way to have a product which
the public can't figure out the technology being used is to write your own
proprietary code. You should start off by writing your own webserver,
because if you use Apache based servers or Microsoft based servers, people
can figure out the type of the server and plenty of other information.

If they write their own server, they can probably get away without having
to write their own operating system and their own programming languages.
However, using a system like Laconi.ca (or Drupal or Wordpress, or many
other systems) can normally be figured out whatever web server is being
used. So, he will need to build his own system on top of building his own
operating system.

Of course, all of that will put him at an competitive disadvantage.
Someone else will come along and say, gee, this is just another
microblogging system, and I could build my own, much cheaper simply by using
Laconi.ca. The competitor will end up eating your clients business and your
client will have wasted lots of money.

So, if you have a client that wants to go that route and has adequate
funding and you are unscrupulous, go for it. Milk it for all that it is
worth, but make sure you are paid in cash, and not in stock, because the
stock will probably be worthless before you know it.

However, if you want a job with longevity and at the same time an
opportunity to make computing better, try to get your client to publicly use
open source software

Just my random thoughts on the idea.

  Hi,

what I'm worried is also exactly the same. because we need to launch a
product which is closed source. and our client doesn't want the public to
know the technology we are using. so that why i thought that having a
commercial license where we can modify the code to match unique business
processes will be great. because re-inventing the wheel should be the last
option in development.

  Praveen
