Actually, I think we'd want "direct messages" to appear on a different
tab, and not get mixed into the home page at all.

Otherwise, this seems like a quick-and-easy way to do groups.

I have another use case, which is for personal groups, which I'd
implement with tags. For example, I would label @stav and @majnoona and
@amitajune as "#family", and then I could make notices to the attention
of my family using @#family and private notices by "d #family".

This is different from Garrett's idea, and has a different purpose. It's
just to help me manage my own subscriber groups.
