the user creation should not take that much time. I created thousands
of users without problems in a few minutes. Maybe the external script
slows down the process.
Unfortunately, for PHP there is no background processing. If you close
the browser or navigate to another page then the script is terminated.

You can create the PDFs from the user list. But if you need the
clear-text passwords on the PDF then you will need to recreate them. :(
