the self service is an independent feature of LAM. It is not related to server 
profiles or account profiles.
You need to configure the object classes and attributes in the self service 
profile.

While GID can be set to a fixed value the UID will not work. LAM 5.1 will 
support autonumbering of attributes like UID.
Homedir creation is another topic. Did you try pam_mkhomedir? It also creates 
homedirs on the fly when a user logs in.
