Hello, and thank you so much for your comments. We are overjoyed to share that this month we reached a milestone that once felt impossible: we surpassed 1,000 articles in Wikipedia in Náhuat. In October alone, we created 86 new articles, along with many improvements. Behind every written word lies hours of learning, teamwork, and hope.
For the past three years, we have worked from El Salvador with one purpose: to show that Náhuat is still alive, and that its voice deserves to be heard in the digital world. Our community has grown through perseverance — with no institutional support, but with immense willpower. Most of us learned everything on our own, through tutorials, trial and error, and endless nights of effort. Today we are a strong and dedicated community, with more than 100 Náhuat Wikimedians who write, translate, and teach others every month. We have completed the translation of key terms on Translatewiki and are currently organizing to begin work on the first Náhuat Wiktionary of El Salvador, which in the future will include native voice recordings to preserve authentic pronunciation. It hasn’t been easy — but we’ve never walked alone. We’ve had the honor of collaborating with the Wayuu Wikipedia, supporting them in several initiatives, and we’ve received invaluable guidance from our dear friends at Wikimedian Tyap, from Africa. They have been our closest allies: offering tutorials, advice, and heartfelt encouragement when we needed it most. This December, we dream of something truly special: the official launch of Wikipedia in Náhuat, during a traditional celebration that gathers all Náhuat speakers from across El Salvador. It would be a deeply symbolic moment — a way to tell the world that, despite centuries of silence, Náhuat still sings. That is why we humbly ask you to consider releasing our Wikipedia. It would not only recognize our work, but also represent an act of historical justice and hope. For an endangered language, having its own space on Wikipedia is like opening a window to the future. Durante tres años, hemos trabajado desde El Salvador con un solo propósito: demostrar que el náhuat sigue vivo y que su voz puede resonar en el mundo digital. Nuestra comunidad ha crecido con esfuerzo, sin recursos, pero con una enorme voluntad. Muchos de nosotros aprendimos todo de manera autodidacta, viendo tutoriales, cometiendo errores y volviendo a intentarlo, una y otra vez. Hoy somos una comunidad fuerte y comprometida, con más de 100 wikimedistas nahuas que cada mes producen artículos, traducen contenidos y enseñan a otros a escribir en su lengua. También hemos completado la traducción de los términos esenciales en Translatewiki y actualmente nos estamos organizando para comenzar a trabajar en el primer Wikcionario en náhuat de El Salvador, el cual incluirá en el futuro grabaciones de hablantes nativos para conservar su pronunciación auténtica. Sabemos que no ha sido un camino fácil. Pero en este viaje no hemos estado solos. Hemos tenido el honor de colaborar con la Wikipedia en Wayuu, a quienes hemos apoyado en varias ocasiones, y hemos recibido un acompañamiento invaluable de nuestros amigos de Wikimedian Tyap, desde África. Ellos han sido nuestros aliados más cercanos: nos han dado tutorías, consejos y, sobre todo, ánimo en los momentos más difíciles. En diciembre queremos realizar algo muy especial: el lanzamiento oficial de Wikipedia en náhuat, durante una celebración tradicional que reúne a todos los hablantes de la lengua en El Salvador. Sería un momento profundamente simbólico — una manera de decirle al mundo que, a pesar de los siglos de silencio, el náhuat sigue cantando. Por eso, pedimos con el corazón que consideren liberar nuestra Wikipedia. No solo sería un reconocimiento a nuestro trabajo, sino un acto de justicia histórica y de esperanza.
