Indeed something is wrong with the history in github - it's there, but it's 
incomplete. "git log" has no entries for 2011, for example. This might be 
caused by our switch to Maven, which also changed the top folder.

Anyway: as not every committer replied in this thread, I emailed them. The 
overall feedback is now:

4 people want to switch
3 people are at least okay with the switch
1 person prefers not to switch
1 person hasn't replied yet
(this only considers committers active in the last ~12 months)

The good news is that github can be used via svn. So if you don't want to 
switch (yet), you can stay with svn. Everybody will need to checkout the 
code again, of course - but that's true even if we stay with SVN, as 
sourceforge enforces the moves to its new platform which will change svn 
URLs, too.

So nothing speaks against moving to github, does it? I will put this on my 
TODO list for next weekend unless someone objects.
