With my Sun desktop (Ultra 20) I too miss out because it's an AMD.
frkit doesn't work on SMP AMD64 systems and thus no power management
(Powernow) on any version of Solaris (Never will be either) due to new
dependence on TSC hardware (For kernel timer) in C2D and Barcelona era
chips. Turion would be P4 era but only P4 without ht works generally
with the power features, and even then you need a NVIDIA adapter because
ATI's hidden functionality needed to keep the GPU working and aware is
not unlocked for use except with a non-existant closed driver, while
NVIDIA has had theirs available for years. I'd say C2D laptops with
Intel GMA (Ones with the open driver), ATI's newest (The R*** ones with
the open spec) and NVIDIA is the way to go but obviously for those with
so called "legacy" hardware (Ie: lacking TSC) will not benefit from
using Solaris if they require power management to work. Those using
anything based on vesa and most bundled X.org drivers even on supported
CPUs will prevent sleep state.
