You can use xorgcfg or xorgconfig (/usr/X11/bin in S10 but may have moved in OS) to help create an initial file (equivalent to the defaults that Xorg must be failing with on your system). Then, with some luck, you'll be able to hand edit it to correct for problems identified in Xorg.0.log. This type of tweaking was common in the past but has been getting less necessary with each update to Xorg. Bernie
