Current economy is based on knowledge and communication. Hence Scientific research plays a key role. Both economic establishment and social movements have actually identified technological innovation as the main sector in which projects and energies shall be put in the next years. Thus knowledge is deemed to became a place for political conflict. The present struggles against privatisation (by the extension of patent rights) and precarisation of immaterial workers, the new tools for sharing knowledge and information, and the current global economical situation, suggest that, from the core itself of the knowledge may start a new way of producing innovation. We thus intend to propose a European research project, in order to verify the possibility of creating a European space for free knowledge and free science. The output should be the theoretical and practical birth of a new concept of science as a public good, along with a host of different instruments to implement this new concept.
