There is ant code to try to determine the version from svn, but we  
allow overriding that for a release.  You are just doing that.  If  
you get the newer version of svn, you won't need to do that.

emacs!  :P

I edit with emacs, using nxml-mode and javascript-mode, run tomcat  
locally, and use firefox with the firebug extension as my debugger.

BBedit is another good choice on the Mac.  It has good svn integration.

There are people using vim too.
