would be nice to see behind the magic.

There are no plans to open source the whole kit and kaboodle --- it's a proprietary offering that will be licensed to communication service providers. This is part of how the OpenLaszlo project gets funded. (The other parts are Laszlo System's training, support, and custom app development services, so if you know any corporate clients, send them our way.)

However, the Laszlo Mail team has been, and continues to be, a major contributor to the open source platform. The Rich Text class in the nightly builds was implemented in part by the Ben Shine of the Laszlo Mail team (as well as by Cortlandt Winters, who frequents both the laszlo-user and the laszlo-dev list, and by Henry Minsky on the OpenLaszlo team). A proposal for compile-time styling is being implemented by the Mail team and will be contributed to the platform --- I'll send out a description of it as I get time. Plus a large number of bug fixes and an even larger number of bug reports, as the team both developed against and stress-tested the system. It's in everyone's interests to take whatever makes sense as a platform feature and move it from Laszlo Mail to the platform --- there's more than enough "secret sauce" in the application-specific parts of Mail, and this way the platform becomes more useful to everyone, and its features get more eyes on them.

Best,
Oliver
