Boris,
OpenLaszlo is primarily a client-side language that binds to server-
side data and services. An OpenLaszlo client generally communicates
with a server using XML over HTTP. Any server-side technology that
can be used to support an Ajax client can also be used to support an
OpenLaszlo client. The OpenLaszlo servlet is generally used at
development time, and is not part of most OpenLaszlo deployment
architectures.
OpenLaszlo 4, which is the first version to support DHTML, is still
in its early days. With version 4.1, expected to be released in the
next few months, this will be the recommended release for all
OpenLaszlo development. Until then we recommend version 3.3.3 for
production use, and 4.0.x for early adopters who want to use DHTML
support.
DHTML support is currently limited to the most popular browsers, and
Opera is not on the "A" list. We support IE6/7, Mozilla 2.x, and
Safari 2. Other browsers, including Opera, are considered "B" list
browsers (they might work, but are not fully qualified). Generally a
given application would be delivered to users either with Flash or
with DHTML, not (as in our demos) in both. That is intended to demo
the cross-runtime capability rather than as a realistic deployment
option.
SVG: there is an experimental version of early support for this, but
it is not supported.
I recommend taking a look at this application/white paper for more
detail on OpenLaszlo 4 and its role in an end-to-end Web application.

If you are considering OpenLaszlo for a serious application at FedEx,
I recommend that you talk with the Laszlo sales team about support
and services to help you reach your goal. Please write me directly if
you'd like to go down this path.

Hi all,
For a few weeks now I've been lurking around the Ol website and
mailinglist.
Because of a few inconveniences with the current versions, I
haven't started investing any real time in actual development with
OL, but I am pretty interested in the whole concept. So please
enlighten me on some basic questions.
My biggest current concern is the plugabillity (sp?). Is it
possible to use existing (java, .net) libraries in OL projects?
One of the big requirements for a possible future project here
would be the requirement of LDAP compatibility. Is this possible as
of now?
Is there a way to make the framework decide whether to use Flash or
DHTML? Current examples always seem to make the user make that
decision.
Why do DHTML applications seem to lock up on Opera (9.23)? I
haven't had this experience with any other website but the old MS
teamworks websites.
Is there any support of SVG in Laszlo already (I know, pretty
early, but please check this website:http://www.opera.com/products/
desktop/svg/)?
Thx in advance
