Flash tends to be very consistent across browsers (but not too consistent across operating systems, especially with different fonts and screen resolutions), and tend to be a bit more responsive than DHTML.

But yeah, I prefer DHTML too. I'm also exploring OpenLaszlo privately before I suggest this for our projects. :) We won't be using this for flashy websites. I'm more concerned on making usable UIs quickly. :)

Is there a reason why one should prefer to use the flash runtime instead of DHTML? Although I like flash for some purposes, I tend to dislike it for pure functional sites. Its lack of basic browser functionality support (history, navigation etc) and SEO unfriendly architecture makes it a bad choice for company websites in my opinion (save for the entertainment industry off course). I'd prefer to not require Flash runtime installed, but would fall back on it if necessary (for whatever reason).

As of the FedEx question, I'm always on the lookout for technologies that can improve our products and development cycles, but before I can suggest anything to management, I plan to try it with a private project. This will allow me to evaluate the system by own experience and ensures my managers that I am already somewhat confident with the technology. Introducing a new technology in a big team as FedEx implies a bunch of complexities that need to be decently counterbalanced if the technology even wants to be considered at all.

Since I favor DHTML over Flash for the projects I have planned, I think it is a good idea to wait for the next version to come out. Until then I will be watching this list on a regular basis out of personal interest.

You might want to implement a page that detects whether there's a Flash player installed or not. This is quite easy to do in JavaScript. Also, you might want to let the user choose between DHTML and Flash in that page. :)
