I have a problem for the definition of macros. I am latex209
user.

I often write macros as

  \newcommand{\mymacro}{%
    long sentence 1%
    long sentence 2%
  }

and use the \date command as

  \date{%
     % 9/11 1998
     \today%
  }

however latex2html expands these to

  \n
  long sentence 1\n
  long sentence 2\n

and

  \date{\n
     \n
     \today\n
  }

((\n) means newline) in the file "image.tex", that is, latex2html
ignores the comment strings with '%'.

This feature causes some problems. Especially, the last one is
LaTeX error because \date is defined by

  \def\date#1{\gdef\@date{#1}}

in latex.tex and #1 must not have null line.

Can we let latex2html remain '%' at the end of line when it expands
macros? Please tell me if anyone know.
