I used to use something like this:

  \bodytext{bgcolor="f5f5dc" text="000000" link="0000ee" vlink="b22222" alink="ff0000"}

which worked fine, but I decided I wanted a background image, so I
switched to

  \bodytext{background="stone.jpg" text="000000" link="0000ee" vlink="b22222" 
alink="ff0000"}

which works as well.
