Unfortunatly this occurs also with other latex-syntax. I was not yet
able to figure out what gives me empty images, but documents which
compiled with (much) older versions ok, produce now empty postcript
files even if there is not a single images in the latex source.

Would not mind much, but these empty images cause following images to
be out of sequence.
