Hello Bruce & *,
technically it reduces to adding a symbolic user name to the CVS
repository. You would then need to set up CVS on your system (unless
already present) and then you could download the latest changes AND upload
modifications yourself.
Now for the organisational part. Personally, I'd like to have some more
people joining the team, but somehow it should be made sure that no
destructive changes are made to the repository and the changes do not
conflict too much.
I saw you, Bruce, and a few other people quite frequently on the mailing
list, so that I'm confident that you all could add value to this project.
I'm against too much restrictions, so Jens, could you add a login for
Bruce? Let's see how things develop, we won't know if we do not try it...
To all the others watching the list: Before you start flooding the list
with "Me too!" Emails, please take a moment of time to consider the pros
and cons of having a CVS login for the repository. Let me start with the
cons ;-)
* you could possibly destroy other people's work
* the repository could become a mess if too many people are working there
* you can get the latest developments via the Web, too
* you can post your contribution on this mailing list and one of the
developers includes it for you
Now the pros:
* You can add bugfixes/enhancements *yourself*
...and this single pro requires some insight into the scripts and a good
deal of perl knowhow.
Please do not misunderstand me, I'm strongly in favor of having more
people contributing actively, but the larger the team gets, the more
difficult the organisation gets. Just as a hint: I believe that 10
concurrent (CVS) developers is the upper limit.
I suggest to add "well known" contributors from the mailing list on
request and see what happens. Any comments?
Cheers,
Marek
