I agree with Curtis here. If the comment and the activity are coupled, the order should be oldest to newest, since the appearance of narrative or dialog cannot be avoided. Twitter and Facebook can get away with newest to oldest because their entire site is built around real time communication. I don't think we can pull off a shift to this unless we do a more serious UI refresh, pusing toward this kind of real time activity on Launchpad.
