I'm afraid that, for now, the guide is only for people who are already with packaging for Ubuntu. That isn't to say that you have to be an expert packager in order to use PPAs. However, I'm not sure that the PPA documentation should try to copy what's already available in the Ubuntu packaging guide. I suppose the tricky part is finding the balance! I take your point on pointing to sub-tutorials and will look at the best way to deal with that. > It's also not clear that although your .deb will be uploaded, it will not > appear in your PPA repo. > Instead, it seems that a new one will be compiled out of your source code. I may have misunderstood what you've written here but I think it is clear that when you upload a source package Launchpad will build then publish it as a binary. I've refreshed the PPA guide and put it at its new home: https://help.launchpad.net/PPA However, I want to look at this afresh and see if we can do a better job on introducing packaging to people who have never packaged before, without replicating the detail of the Ubuntu packaging guide. Therefore rather than mark this as "Fix released" just yet, I'm going to leave it as "In progress" and target it to Launchpad's August release (2.1.8). ** Changed in: launchpad-documentation Target: 1.99 => 2.1.8 -- PPAQuickStart guide is outdated and incomplete https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/250061 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Launchpad Documentation Team, which is subscribed to Launchpad Documentation. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~launchpad-doc Post to : [email protected] Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~launchpad-doc More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
