That was intended to be a very temporary fix till the fix for the websocket issue lands in a stable channel that Launchpad could use. Unfortunately, it has been left in place for nearly a year and we should be removing it now that it is available in a stable channel. Ideally, we'd like to stop pinning it to a non-default stable channel of LXD for a given Ubuntu series too.
