Hi, First, thanks for the new site redesign. I like many of the changes, but I would like to make some suggestions, as I find myself pretty frustrated with the new interface at times.
My primary use of LP at the moment is working in Malone, so my comments are almost entirely about that area. First, what I like about the new design: much wider space available for comment area. This is great, thank you! The new icons are very crisp, I like those too. :) Now, for working with the beta UI, I'm frustrated by what I view as "wasted" space. Comparing the same bug in both current and beta LP, on my monitor, the title of the bug (and as a result, the description immediately following it) start at about 1.5cm and 6cm from the top of my browser window, respectively. For me, doing quick reviews of new bugs is critical, and avoiding scrolling down to read stuff is very helpful. In my perfect world, the top "Logged in as" bar wouldn't even exist in the current LP UI: I know I'm logged in, this information isn't needed. The bread-crumbs are also not needed, or could be shortened. I'm always at "Launchpad", so just use the icon. Make it part of the left-side boxes; I've never seen it longer than 3 (product/package/version), but I'm sure that's just me. :) Perhaps a floating div that appears when you mouse-over the LP icon? In the new UI, the 4.5cm "lost" space is taken by the "this space intentionally left blank" image, the Overview/Code/Bugs/... tabs, the search bar, and the top-most "Launchpad" grey bar. I'm not interested in any of this stuff, and to have it repeated on every single page is very frustrating. The left-side boxes are always collapsed; I find this very frustrating as well. Before, I could load up a bug, see the submission date, submitter, who was subscribed (which usually indicates how a submitter wants a bug handled), package and version, and I'd have a good bit of context before reading the description. Now I have to mouse+click to open the bug details, and again mouse+click to open subscribers. At least having these boxes' open/close stated saved in a cookie would be a good fix for me. But presently, again, I get frustrated with the slow-down to my workflow. Would it be possible to allow people to customize the CSS used when they view LP? In that case, I could wildly trim away the stuff I'm not interested in without impacting everyone else. :) Take care, -- Kees Cook
